About the Library

The Iowa Forestry Media Library (IFML) is an open-access initiative focused on preserving and publishing high-fidelity digital imagery of dendrology specimens. The goal is to support accurate identification, instruction, and research with imagery that retains diagnostic detail beyond what most field guides and low-resolution databases can provide.

Mission

Build a comprehensive, high-resolution digital archive of regional tree species and related forestry media, with clear provenance, consistent technical standards, and long-term public access.

Methodology

Open Access

Published datasets and access packages are hosted on Zenodo for long-term preservation and citation (DOIs), and supporting documentation/tools are shared openly where practical.

Citing IFML

When using images or datasets, cite the specific Zenodo record DOI (preferred). If you need to cite the project generally, use the citations page.
